The Resilience Research Working Group advances research on whole-of-society approaches to national resilience in the face of complex and compounding risks. This focus area examines how states, communities, institutions, and citizens can collectively prepare for and adapt to crises that strain social cohesion, governance capacity, and public trust.
Drawing on interdisciplinary expertise, the Working Group develops analytical frameworks and models for understanding resilience as a shared societal function rather than a solely governmental responsibility. Research in this area explores how coordination across public institutions, civil society, the private sector, and communities can strengthen preparedness, improve crisis response, and support sustained recovery.
This work is forward-looking and conceptual in orientation, aimed at generating cutting-edge insights that can inform policy design and long-term planning. By translating whole-of-society principles into practical, Canada-relevant models, the Resilience Research Working Group contributes to national conversations about how resilience can be built, sustained, and mobilized before crises occur.
