The Securing Canada’s Future focus area examines how Canada can navigate defence, sovereignty, and alliance challenges in an era of accelerating geopolitical change. This work is oriented toward forward-looking analysis of Canada’s national security environment, with particular attention to emerging threats, strategic uncertainty, and the long-term requirements of Canadian defence and resilience.
This focus area is grounded in the landmark 2025 edited volume Securing Canada’s Future, which brought together a distinguished group of Canadian women scholars to assess Canada’s emerging security landscape. By centring women’s expertise in national security and defence, the book challenges long-standing imbalances in the field while delivering analytically rigorous, policy-relevant scholarship.
The volume has served as a launch point for an expanding collaborative research agenda. It has catalyzed additional scholarly outputs, including a forthcoming special issue of International Journal and a series of ongoing research collaborations. Together, this work continues to shape debates on Canadian defence, security policy, and national resilience.
